How to buy a pink diamond on a budget

Buying a nice looking Pink Diamond is a challenge for the 99%'ers. This is a one carat diamond - which makes it respectable in terms of size. This is actually a brown diamond - Fancy Pink-Brown according to GIA.

The tricky part here is that this grade can range widely in actual appearance.

Remember, Pink Brown is pinker than Pink-ish Brown, on the GIA color scale. This diamond is about as pink as I've ever seen in this grade.

A few factors combine to make this particular example truly spectacular for it's grade.

The diamond has great depth of color.

The cut: It is not cut like a colorless diamond - it is not supposed to be. However, the best Fancy Colored Diamonds I see draw elements of light performance from colorless.

This is a great example. There is a really nice crown and the table is not large, by any means. I'd estimate it at 65%. I have to estimate because the GIA report is color only.

The second factor positively affecting the overall brilliance is the lack of fluorescence. It has got a lot of sparkle for a stone with such a deep color - when it sparkles, it's sparkling the pink end of Pink-Brown.

Back to the GIA color only report - the cutter submitted it that way because the diamond is I1 clarity. The imperfection, so visible in the pictures is hard to pick up in person.

There is no imperfection that breaks the surface - the diamond has integrity throughout. No chips or abrasions.

Overall it is a great looking pink diamond for the money.
