I have this problem with antique diamonds. On the one hand, I respect antiquity. For example, I would much prefer to see an old guitar that has never been refinished. With vintage instruments, bringing them back to brand new condition destroys the value.

For some reason, I cannot extend this attitude towards diamonds. Although I respect antique diamonds that have survived intact to this day, many of them show damage I do not like to see on any diamond.

I'm talking about things like abrasions to the stone, chips, and girdle damage.

So when I saw this diamond, I got pretty excited.

It's an old European cut. I do believe it was more recently cut in the antique style, but I cannot guarantee it either way. However I can tell you, is that this time is in perfect condition. The girdle is done in the antique style which is translucent, as opposed to a polished, modern girdle.

I also like the fact that the stone is kind of "funky". It's not perfectly symmetrical, yet it is not asymmetrical to the degree that you can visually notice a lot of wackiness.

The brilliance of the stone is phenomenal – it's got a great personality. Obviously the stone has some warmth, but it fits with the personality beautifully.

Although GIA graded this diamond SI2, the stone is eye clean as the imperfections are dispersed.

In its custom made setting, the stone picks up a bit more tint - there's a nice contrast with the icy white side diamonds.

I love the perfectly smooth bezel design. It's a ring you can wear comfortably, every day - and I totally unique one at that.
