3.50ct W-X VS2 Cushion Cut Diamond

I love this diamond for a lot of reasons. For one thing, it’s great to use as a tool to tell the story of how many diamonds get sold. The stone was cut in India, and purchased there by a good friend of mine. Although he and I are good friends, we have different outlooks on business.

The cutter had sent to Diamond to GIA for a color only report – and it came back W-X color. Now, I agree, GA was pretty tough on this one. The color is very strong for the grade. However, once GIA gives its grade, that’s with the diamond will trade as. My friend sells to a lot of jewelry stores and other resellers. He believes that people won’t want a diamond of W-X color grade. So he sends the diamond to EGL USA. They grade the diamond Fancy Light Yellow. Quite a difference.

I guess the idea would be for someone to either charge a lot more for the stone, or, convince a buyer that they’re selling a fancy light yellow diamond at far less than a legitimately graded fancy light yellow diamond - hoping the buyer will not realize. Both of those suck, right? This is my life's work- I hate when people act dishonorably.

None of this affects the beauty of the diamond, and it is a stunning 3 1/2 carat diamond. Although it is technically a cushion, the diamond is practically square. I love the way it’s cut. The stone has a small table (EGL measured it at 55%) and a very generous crown. I do believe EGL got it correct in terms of clarity, they graded it VS2. I agree, although GIA might give it an SI1. In terms of florescence it’s faint or none.

So we have a beautiful light yellow diamond, in a very desirable 3 1/2 carat size, gorgeous cut – and the price is quite reasonable due to the color. In terms of the color, it’s obviouslyYellow, just a light yellow instead of a deep canary color. We find that some people actually prefer the light color.
