2.00ct N SI1 Cushion Cut Diamond Ring
For those who have been reading our site, the warnings about trusting only GIA for grades on Fancy Shaped Diamonds are probably very familiar.
This diamond is a perfect example of why.
Here's the label off the EGL report.
I knew I liked the diamond as soon as I saw it - it's a great cut, and totally eye clean. However, I also knew that calling this thing an H would make us... well, liars.
Problem for consumers (who don't know this information) is that it is quite easy to think that all gem labs are the same - this shows of exactly how badly a consumer can be misled if they believe EGL and GIA are interchangeable.
The truth is, an educated consumer is far more likely to consider a stone like this, honestly represented. Bargain hunters will love this stone "certified" as an H SI1 when they see that GIA graded H/SI1 2ct stones are more than double the price.
This must be a helluva deal!
I liked this one enough to purchase sans the GIA. The diamond was graded N by GIA - yup, you read that correctly. H by EGL, N by GIA. Wow.
If I had one criticism of GIA its that they are taking 6 weeks to grade stones at the time of this writing. But wait we did - so now the stone is properly documented.
In terms of cut, it is a modern cushion, yet there is still a bit of larger facet reflections coming back to your eye. The 61% table produces a higher crown, that adds a slight "vintage" feel.
In the case of the clarity - EGL, GIA (and I) all agree it is an SI1. A very good, eye clean SI1, but an SI1
It's not a "high white" stone, yet neither is it very yellow.
The Ring
Another strong point of Diamonds by Lauren is our jewelry manufacturing capabilities.
We make some of the finest hand forged rings on the market- and we also produce a more affordable hand forged ring.
This is one of the more affordable, yet still beautiful, hand forged rings. It came out beautiful!
You can see the tint of the center diamond in this ring, but I find the small difference in color from the melee to be lovely.
The photos above are ACTUAL Photos of the diamond you will receive.
