.90ct D SI2 Pear Shape Diamond
This stone was stored for the last 12 years or so in the vault of a friend of mine - an amazing cutter who has cut some of the most amazing stones you have seen on our site since we opened it, in 1999.
Coincidentally, he cut this pear shape diamond in 1999. It was cut from the smaller piece of a larger diamond that was sawed in the rough. He was just holding it. Diamonds don’t go stale, and a stone like this does not go out of style (for long) either.
If possible to own a lot of diamonds, it certainly can make a diamond business stronger - we follow this model. Almost all our competition online does not.
With fancy shapes in particular, a massive range of prices within a grade can be found when doing an internet diamond search.
The reason has to do with desirability, which is a crucial factor in the price of any item. Some pear shapes are beautiful - others less so. There is nothing on a GIA report that gives us this information.
A stone with EXCELLENT on both Polish and Symmetry can be ugly, while a stone with GOOD in POL/SYM can be drop dead gorgeous, such as this one.
I love pear shapes when they are cut like this one. Beautiful organic shape - all curves. On the tall side, as opposed to chubby, but not to the extreme. The stone looks large for its weight due to the depth. I find the diamond to be quite bright through a range of motion.
It is a D color - and an extremely white one. I know, all D color diamonds are quite white, but this one is exceptional in it’s almost, dare I say…Blue White appearance.
The clarity, at SI2 is a huge money saver on this stone. As far as the grade itself, I have to say it’s fair-, but strict in my opinion. I understand why GIA graded it SI2, however it’s one of those stones where you have to look really hard - with the loupe - to find the incredibly faint imperfection. Since the diamond is photographed oriented u-side down in relation to the GIA plot, the imperfection plotted would be at the edge of the diamond at about 8:00
In this case, the camera is acting like a loupe- because I can make out the every so slight imperfection in the photo below

But that’s it - no black imperfection - so in essence, it’s quite a clean SI2.
We are getting an updated GIA report for the diamond, and it is included in the price.
