I admit I am a sucker for a beautiful vintage cut diamond - and this one is no exception. This stone has everything I look for in an Old European cut diamond. It has a tiny table with a noticeable culet that is neither too big nor too small. The culet reflects beautifully through the stone as well - this is called the Kozibe effect. The cut of this stone produces a lovely floral-like patterning that is quite pleasing to the eye.
This diamond appears to have a girdle that has been cleaned up a little. However the girdle has not be polished or faceted. Even so, this stone has a few minor areas of either a bearded girdle - meaning the frosted part of the girdle spills over onto the adjacent facet.
Most modern stones have a faceted or polished girdle. This means that the girdle becomes transparent as opposed to opaque as in a stone with a non faceted or polished girdle. Authentic non-restored diamonds of old will not have faceted or polished girdles.
The diamond is completely clean - other than the bearded girdle - with a clarity grade of VS1.
The stone is not yellow enough to look really yellow, but it is a lovely soft color - ivory in shade if you will.
