The Loose Diamond

Canary Diamond

I love what I do for so many reasons. One of my very favorite parts is getting buy millions of dollars worth of diamonds a year.

I select from hundreds of stones. Some cutters keep the diamonds in parcel papers - most sellers of colorless diamonds do. It takes up a lot less room.

When it comes to fancy colored diamonds the actual hue is so integral to it's desirability, many fancy colored diamond cutters display the diamonds in plastic capsules

This diamond stood out immediately. Desirable color - exceptionally pure yellow and intensity about 80% of the way to vivid.

I immediately noticed the remarkable cut as well. It looks like it could be a 1.75-2ct stone. 60% depth, in a stone of such a strong color is rare indeed.

Custom Made Fantasy Ring

I say "Fantasy" because finding a parcel like the one above is just a very rare occurrence. There were a total 29 little pink heart shapes for our setters to choose from. The ten stones they picked fit together perfectly. the handcrafted aspect of this masterpiece cannot be overlooked. We start with exceptional diamonds, combined it with exceptional workmanship-and design.

It took over three months to complete the entire process.

Attention to detail is quite evident in the photo directly below. We see how a miniscule diamond is added directly at the end of the split shank. Taking "diamond studded" to full effect.

We can also notice in the photo above the cleanliness of the "V" in the split shank. In fact, there is not anyplace you can see - under magnification - that is not perfectly finished.

Remarkable.

Pricing Fancy Intense Yellow Diamonds.

Fancy colored diamonds are priced somewhat differently than colorless diamonds. The reasons have to do with the fact that fancy colored diamonds are judged - and evaluated - differently. If a diamond is a D/VS1 Triple EX cut grade ,it might be $20k. A stone with a "Good" cut grade that GIA graded D/I1 might be $3500( hypothetical example)

Now let's consider a Fancy Intense VS1 that might sell for $20k. We might find another stone, same grade, same cut for $2000 less. The reason? Depth of color, or Fluorescence.

We could also find an GIA graded I1 for $22k, because its almost vivid yellow. The point is, the logic of pricing is heavily based n how the diamond looks. We buy the best looking stones, not the cheapest ones.

This stone was the most expensive carat and a half intense yellow the cutter had. We buy so many that I'm quite familiar with the prices. It's not an exorbitant price- but by no means the cheapest intense on the market- for good reason- its got to be at least as nice as any other you'll see.

In terms of 10 matching Fancy Light Pink Heart Shapes - it could easily be $10,000 per carat to obtain these. There is no brown in these stones.
