HOW TO BUY FANCY COLORED DIAMONDS 101
Lesson number one: USE YOUR EYES
I'm looking at this guy, I'm thinking Vivid Yellow! Even at it's lightest, it's a super strong intense.
GIA is the final word, when it comes to Fancy Colored (and colorless) diamond grading. We advise people to not even consider any other labs' reports when it comers to high dollar diamonds.
This is because GIA is far and away, the most consistent of the labs. Still, they are judging things by eye. It's possible that a diamond slightly lighter than this has gotten Vivid Yellow- I believe I've seen such diamonds.
CLARITY
The diamond has GIA's "Color Origin" report. This report lists the Shape, Measurements, Weight, Color Grade, and Comments, if there are any. We have graded diamond VS1 because I can't see anything inside. The stone is completely eye clean.
CUT
Cut for breathtaking color and brilliance, the diamond is 74.6% depth. That means it's not the largest 2 carat diamond you'll ever see. I'd compare it to many 1.85 carat diamonds with depths in the mid '60's. Still, as the example above showed, sometimes a shallower diamond gives up color.
COLOR
If you've seen Vivid Yellow in person, you understand the dramatic natural color. This diamond is graded "Natural Fancy Intense Yellow" but it's as close to vivid as they come .
PRICE
This diamond is priced with the depth, and GIA color origin report in mind. I'd estimate these two factors save you as much as 40% on the price of this diamond. You didn't come here looking for cheap. There's nothing about this diamond that looks cheap. Say it was a 1.75 Fancy Vivid Yellow- it's a easily a $50,000 diamond. At $23K, there's tremendous value here.
