I've always
loved the unusual. Sure, things that are as you expect them to be are great, but
things that make you do a "double take" always drew me in for a triple ,
quadruple takes. This is such a diamond, and
such a ring.
Let's start with the center
diamond. Yes, it's an "Emerald Cut Diamond"
No, it's not a typical emerald cut stone. The
corners, for example, are deeply cut- at a bold angle. This does something to my
eye which makes my mind go "Asscher"- but the beautiful "Matchbox"
profile rules that out instantly.
Diamond dealers use the terms
"Matchbook" and "Matchbox" to describe a rectangular diamond's profile.
A matchbook is just a little wider
than it is tall, say 6 wide by 5 tall.
A matchbox is more
rectangular...say 6 x 4.
One thing this surely tells you is
that Diamond dealers obviously need to smoke less.
The other unique aspect of the cut
is that the diamond is not deep- numerically, it's quite shallow. Thankfully,
diamonds and numbers are two totally different things. This is a 2.03ct diamond,
that could easily pass for a 3.00carat- it's HUGE.
It's a clean diamond- you will not
see any spots or imperfections.
The color is extremely deceptive.
Many times the diamond appears totally colorless- other times you can see a
little tint. Never is it a bother to me. There are people who absolutely won't
accept any color in their diamonds- this is not a ring for them But you already
know if you're in this group. You have to know what to look for to be able to
see the difference.
As if all that weren't enough,
it's framed by two humongous step cut half moons. These stones totally spread
the diamond-age across your finger.
The ring itself is bold- yet
subtle. The shank is substantial.
The stones perfectly positioned.
The whole massive affair sits low to the finger. Deceptively comfortable, and it looks great on the hand.
The bottom line here is.....well,
quite modest considering that this ring looks like it cost twice what it does-I
say this because it's gi-normous- and completely sparkly- even from across the
room.
Normally, we manufacture all of
our rings in our own factories, right here on 47th St. In this case, we
purchased the ring intact, because we love the style, and the manufacture
quality is up to our high standards. We'll guarantee the ring just the way we
do the ones we make.
The grades below are ours. There
is an EGL report calling the center diamond J/VS2. We respectfully disagree with
that result- and in fact, never advertise a diamond as "certified" without a
grade from a GIA report.
