4.09ct Y-Z I1 Pear Shape Diamond Halo Ring
Here is a "knock your socks off" ring.
The center piece is a 4.09ct Y-Z Natural light yellow Pear Shape Graded I1 by GIA.
This is a very good thing - the GIA Y-Z I1 grade is 100% better in my book than Fancy Yellow SI2 from any other lab.
No surprises - you know exactly what you are getting - and the reason why such a huge ring costs so little (relatively).
The cut on this pear shape is truly excellent. It has a beautiful shape overall, it is cut in such a way that it is not at all deep. The stone has remarkable brilliance with no bow tie. The diamond is very lively, and large for its weight.
Let's get to the clarity - because if you are like me, you have read all kinds of stuff written about clarity grading all over the internet. So much of it is balderdash. Can I say that?
Seriously, clarity grading is widely mischaracterized online because it is not an easy subject to sum up in 140 characters... (hash tag EYECLEAN)
Put simply, we can't make valid generalizations about how a clarity grade will look in a specific example. For example, there are properly GIA graded VS2 diamonds that are not eye clean. It is rare, but they do exist if there is a pinpoint imperfection placed right over a large facet, where it can be seen.
Conversely, this is an I1 diamond that is eye clean. The imperfections are dispersed is such a way that they are not concentrated on one area, and none are black carbon type. Also, this diamond is a total "sparkle" kind of diamond - a thousand tiny flashes of light - as opposed to the type of stones that flash larger reflections. This type of modern sparkle obliterates the eyes ability to focus on some imperfection they might be able to see in a round brilliant (for example).
The great thing about I1 diamonds is the price. You are getting a lot of stone here.
If it was just a little deeper in color and less included - Fancy Light Yellow SI1 - it might not appear very different at all to the eye, yet it would set you back about $8-10k more.
The Ring
We generally buy the diamonds loose and manufacture the rings ourselves.
In this case, the ring is nicely done, so we decided to offer the stone and ring.
It is a lovely double halo design. The ring is clearly a substantial piece, yet it is not cumbersome on the hand.
Huge WOW factor on this one.
