This is a very rare bird indeed. Emerald cuts, can be remarkably beautiful. But alas, adding the facets to transform it into a radiant cut generally intensifies the color coming out of the top. Given that the more intense the color, the higher the price, most cutters go for radiant cuts. So canary yellow Emerald Cuts are rare for that reason.
This particular stone has so much going for it besides the rarity. The cut is just perfect. In a colorless stone, I generally prefer a smaller table. However the cutter used the pavilion facets perfectly creating an optical illusion of a smaller table, and at the same time, the larger table is working in favor of broadcasting the color. The light performance in person is remarkable - the steps are so distinct.
The color is also noteworthy. Pure, bright Yellow. Clearly more intense than Intense Yellow. Combined with the cut this produces a great vehicle for the color. Lot's of sparkle - the stone has life.
The GIA report is all there. VG in polish and VG in symmetry with no fluorescence. VVS2 - no worries about clarity. She is a small bird it's true, but a very special one. Also quite affordable due to the size. |
