5.01ct J VS2 Round Brilliant Diamond
We all know that "cut is king" when it comes to diamonds. The truth is cut is a crucial element in a diamond's beauty, but lets look into this aspect more closely.
GIA has a cut grade for round diamonds. EX is the top grade. AGSL has an eve more stringent cut grade. The idea is perfection in cut. OK, that's an easy concept to get.
However, what's the difference between Ideal (AGSL) EX (GIA) and "Very good"?
In terms of the visual difference, I'd say that the better cut stones will have "crisper" reflections coming off the diamond - more well defined hearts and arrows.
This diamond is a bit on the shallow side - which does exclude it from GIA EX, or AGSL Ideal - yet that aspect accounts for a size at the top of the range you'll find in a five carat diamond. Many people will actually find that aspect to trump the look of the "Ideal" Cut.
In terms of value - is a "Very Good" cut grade a worthy investment?
This is a crucial aspect of cut that never seems to be stressed enough. If a stone "performs" slightly less well than another stone, yet it's priced 20% less. This is a great case of seeing the value, it's a lovely diamond - very bright and lively. The 20% in the case of this diamond does to quite a chunk of change.
The J color is not all that noticeable- another great aspect of this cut. Eye clean VS2- although I can make out the crystals in some of these pictures.
Overall one of the least costly stones of this ilk in the market- making it an amazing value.
