1.93ct K/SI2 Asscher Cut Diamond

This is a very cool diamond for many reasons. First of all, it is very rare to see a diamond of 1.93 carats. The reason for this, is that most cutters will choose to make the diamond a little heavier and come out with a two carat diamond.

Then we have the step cut pattern which is very distinct.

It is also a very special diamond because of where we got it.

A good friend of ours introduced us to a great new cutter.

For those who read our stuff, you will know that I only go by GIA grading, and the stone is a great example why. It is also a great example of why and EGL report does not mean it is a bad diamond.

In this case EGL graded this diamond H SI1.

I will tell you this, it really does look pretty white, and it is I clean. But it ain't no H color, and it ain't no SI1. It is a really nice looking, almost colorless, Asscher Cut diamond - very close to 2 carats, and is less than $12,000.

That's a good combination.

I graded the diamond K color.

For those of you who don't know our grading policy: when I'm comparing this diamond with GIA graded diamonds to ascertain its color, I always go with the more conservative grade. In this case, I felt the diamond was very close to J color, might even get a J color from GIA. However, I was preferred to err on the conservative side.

In terms of clarity, it is an SI1. That is if you are on Mars or some other alternate universe.

Down here on earth, GIA might give this diamond SI2, and it might give it I1.

I am going to go with SI2 in this case – think about it, Asscher Cuts, show imperfections more easily... however, this is not always the case. In this case, the imperfections are located in a place that most of them will be covered by a prong. Basically, the heart of the stones clean, there are no black imperfections, and the stone is very bright.
