.96ct F VS1 Emerald Cut (Cut Cornered Rectangular Step Cut) Diamond
GIA classified this diamond as an "Cut Cornered Rectangular Step Cut". Basically, that means it's a rectangular Asscher Cut diamond. In many ways, it looks like an emerald cut diamond, but in certain important ways it does not. You can see this in the pictures, it's the corners - they are very generous, and dramatic. They create large triangular facets at the corners of the diamond that both accentuate the steps, and add some sparkle at the ends of the diamond.
In terms of setting, I would treat it pretty much like an emerald cut – that is to say, it would go beautifully in a three stone ring, tapered baguettes on the side would be very pretty. A halo ring would be very nice. And in both cases, the shape of the diamond will produce a ring that has a beautiful personality.
Suffice it to say, I think this diamond has an excellent cut. Having said that, there is no established "excellent" cut grade established by the GIA for emerald cut diamonds – or for any fancy shaped diamonds for that matter. Therefore, any website claiming to have "excellent" cut graded emerald cut diamonds is using their own rating system without making that well-known to the consumer.
Besides that, the true determination of what is an excellent cut grade is your eye – what you like. Some people like a square emerald cut, or an asscher cut, while some people are drawn to a rectangular emerald cut. Neither is "right". The reason we show so many photos is so that you can determine if the diamond matches what your idea of what an excellent emerald cut is.
F color is totally colorless – amazing in this cut. We also appreciate the super clean VS1 Clarity. The diamond is totally eye clean. It is rare to find a diamond so close to a carat, yet not a carat. This saves you a bit of money. Not to say that this is a cheap diamond, but it is a unique diamond. And certainly one of the most beautiful ones on the market.
