How To Grade the "Cut" of a Princess Cut Diamond

It's a fairly well known fact that the "Cut" of a diamond is important. Certainly to many people shopping for a diamond.

Today, the wealth of knowledge offered by the internet in inconceivable. There's information on just about anything you might think of. The most esoteric subjects, discussed in the most minute detail.

There's even sites that purport to have the answer as to what constitutes a well cut diamond. There's charts- anything above a certain "Table Percentage" is s no good. The depth needs to be between 60.9874 and 3/4 % and a horses but.

That kind of thing.

All right, the people pushing these charts don't talk about a horses ass, but they treat us as though we have no intelligence.

At least that's the way I feel- having grown up in the diamond industry.

I know that there's only one objective way to judge a diamond. Look at it.

Diamonds are kept in parcel papers.

In many cases, all the pertinent grades and measurements off the GIA report are printed right on the outside of the paper.

I have learned, that when buying, these labels don't help. Sometimes a stone that has a great color and clarity- and other numbers that fall within the range many of the charts prefer- and still not be a pleasing stone- especially in the fancy shapes.

And worse- a lot of the best fancy shaped diamonds fall outside the "proscribed" range of these charts.

Many of the most amazing diamonds we've had were totally unique.

This diamond is exceptionally well cut

I say that based on thorough physical observation and examination.

The diamond has great sparkle and life. It shines even in dim lighting. It also has a good size for it's weight. How would it look if we put lasers through it? I don't know, honestly I don't care. If you like these photos, well, that's a big part of the answer right there

G is a very high color- the diamond is very white.

VS1 means the diamond is also remarkably free of imperfection.

This diamond will look awesome in a ring.

Our eBay Semi Mount Store

We recommend buying your diamond and ring from the same seller.  There are many reasons for this.  For one thing, you have one company to be held responsible for the quality of your entire product.

We can sell our semi-mount rings at a substantially lower price than we could if semi-mount rings were our only business. Generally speaking, every time we sell a semi-mount, we are selling the diamond that is going in the center.  Therefore we can afford to offer a super high quality product at a far lower price could find from a company selling only semi mount rings.
