.78ct Fancy Vivid Yellow-Orange I1 Cushion Cut Diamond Ring

Here is an "exciting" orange diamond.

The grade, Fancy Vivid Yellow-Orange, is impressive - the primary color is orange- and indeed, that's what you see.

The color is indeed complex - and you can see a multitude of hues in the photos, and again, in real life as well.

Pure orange is incredibly rare (and expensive) in natural diamonds, up there with Pink.

The yellow in this stone allows it to be sold for less than a car. Most cars at least.

If you're spending less than this for a car, you may need to save some funds for towing, but I digress.

The point is, it is relatively affordable compared to pure orange diamond, and the complexity of the color has the effect of making the color more obvious. Win, win - if you love the way it looks. The video will also help you grasp the flavor.

The diamond has a color only GIA report.

The grade, Fancy Vivid Yellow-Orange, is impressive - the primary color is orange- and indeed, that's what you see.

It is an eye clean diamond due to a few factors

1) the nature of the imperfections- there's no black carbon spots
2) dispersion of imperfections- there's no single large imperfection, rather there's two imperfections, each of which would cause the diamond to be graded SI1 if they were the only imperfection. Then a few pinpoints which would be VS grade if they were the only ones.
In looking at the video, there are times I can see what looks like a white imperfection towards the top of the center of the diamond - especially from about :50 to the end, where the lighting is very bright. In person, I can't see that - even in the bright light.
3) Depth of color - the stone is vivid - which means you just can't see certain imperfections that might be visible in a colorless diamond.

The cut is remarkable - totally "unorthodox" by colorless diamond standards, but it works incredibly well.

Basically, the stone is fairly shallow. Plus the crown is very shallow ( the top is flatter than "normal" stones)

The remarkable thing here is that although common sense might dictate bad results from this combination, this diamond has no common sense!

The diamond sparkles incredibly well from edge to edge – and through a range of viewing angles.

The secret is the small table- the cutter was able to craft a small table that really makes all the difference. It sparkles differently than a colorless cushion, and in a very good way.

Oh, and the good part about a more shallow diamond- the face up is enormous for a .78ct cushion. For comparison, we have a .75ct near colorless cushion that measures 5.85 x 5.15, and it happens to have a large face up.

More typical for Fancy Colored cushion, a really nicely cut .82ct FY on the site measures 5.69 x 4.95.

So you can see, this diamond at 6.29 x 5.52 faces up looking large than a carat - and the cool cut means every square micron is sparkling.

The Ring

When I saw this pair of half-moons, I knew I we had to have them - I mean where can find this stuff?

They happened to be cut by someone who knows of Diamonds by Lauren, so he had us in mind.

We used a lovely 1mm halo to demarc the orange stones, and it works like a charm!
