2.22ct Y-Z SI1 Radiant Cut Diamond
Here's a gorgeous square radiant cut diamond. As you can see, the cut of the diamond is absolutely gorgeous. The shape is an almost perfect square. Combined with the lovely faceting of the stone we get an even sparkle from one corner to the next. We can see the VG polish, and VG symmetry – also no florescence – check, check, check.
In terms of clarity, this diamond is a perfect example of why you cannot use the plot on a GIA report to determine the impact of an imperfection. For example, this plot shows one speck dead in the middle of a big white area.
Based on this representation, it would be natural to assume that you would be able to see that spot when looking at the diamond. Except, the center of the diamond is not one open area, you have the entire pavilion facets system below. The light bouncing around from the pavilion obscures the imperfection.
Also, we only have a two dimensional representation. The tiny Carbon Crystal, and needle, are pretty much dead center in the middle of the diamond. When I say dead center, think center of the earth. So you have this tiny crystal and needle buried deep within the diamond. Can you make it out from the pictures posted above so far?
Below are a few shots I took ultra close up in a light box which allows focus on the center of the diamond – so we can see the Crystal.
You can also see that when viewed from behind, it can bounce around and reflect and appear on a number of facets. However, when viewed from above, it does not behave the same way – in fact it just disappears into the diamond. It might be possible to pick it out if you had the diamond under a bright light and you are very sharp hide and angled it exactly the right way. Other than that there is absolutely zero Visual impact from this imperfection.
That's the lesson for the day, make sure you took good notes because there will be a test tomorrow.
It's a great looking natural light yellow diamond, beautifully cut, almost as dark as a fancy light yellow, but not quite. The SI one clarity, and the white Z color, give us a great bargain in this one.
