Princess Cuts in 2012
The sharp rise in the price of round diamonds over the past 18 months has created a strange inequity in supply.
The prices of rounds are so high that a .75ct round brilliant cut will sell for more than a 1.00ct princess - both of which can be cut from the same piece of rough.
Cutters responded over the past year and a half by cutting far less princess cuts compared to the percentages of a few years ago.
The basic principles of economy apply: less princess cuts on the market means their prices should rise, and motivate cutters to start cutting them again.
We are still waiting for that show to fall.
Remember that the princess cut is the second most popular cut of diamonds, behind the round brilliant cut.
The effect on other fancy shapes has been even greater - they are now harder to find.
Let's look at them one at a time.
First is the 1.11 K/VVS1
In terms of cut, both of these diamonds are cut to be "spready". The result is a stone that has a ton of sparkle, from edge to edge, and very little, or no "patterning" - like hearts and arrows that are found in round brilliants.
When done correctly, this style produces a stone that offers good size for its weight. Also, as you can see, it is very pretty!
Now the 1.17ct K/VVS2
If you like the diamonds in these photos, you will love them in person - we guarantee it!
The photos above are ACTUAL Photos of the diamonds you will receive.
