ITEM #R2543

Here is a remarkable rough diamond.  This is a totally natural diamond, just as it came out of the ground.  It was mined in India.  Our friend bought it there, got on a plane and brought it to us.  Now you can buy it.

The diamond is an octahedron.

Many diamonds come out of the ground in this shape and form  In general, if they were to polish a diamond like this, they would saw the diamond.  About three quarters of the way up, as shown in the diagram below.  It would end up as two diamonds.

We can not specify now exactly how the Diamond needs to be cut.  The first step to polish a small "window" someplace on the Diamond strategically placed.  So we can look inside.

Assuming a high loss ratio, which is our best chance of getting a good cut, the Diamond might polish out to be 3 1/2 possibly four carats.  If it's a nice one, you just hit a home run.  There is risk.  For example, the Diamond could shatter on the wheel.  Or, the polished diamond could just be ugly.  I'll tell you this though, the guy we will have cut this diamond has a good shot as anyone in making it turned out to be a beautifully cut diamond.

Or, you can leave it as it is. It is really beautiful.  Just like it is.

ALL the beautiful geometric striations, you see... as mentioned above, all are totally natural as the Diamond came out of the ground.

There are probably a lot of ways to set this diamond. you may have some ideas.

Remember, when you're looking at diamonds in the rough or polished, large ones are really rare.

Smaller diamonds go for a lower price per carat.  That's why the really large ones are so much more.

for example:  We offer some beautiful two carat rough, for about $200 per carat, or about $400 for a stone.

This diamond is 10.16 carats, it dwarfs the two carat diamond.

As such a large diamond,.  It goes for a much higher per carat price... and instead of multiplying it by two you multiply that by 10.16.  But if you like a big diamond, it's definitely worth it.

Originally, I did not believe this Diamond would be a good candidate for cutting.  But I am not an expert in rough, I specialize in polished diamonds.  I did show it to an expert in assessing rough diamonds in terms of feasibility for cutting.  He believes it would be a good stone to cut.  We could handle this whole procedure for you. there would be an element of risk in this.... But it would likely polish to a stone of 3 1/2 to four carats  And if it's a nice one, you just hit a major league grand slam.

Or... leave it as it is. It is really beautiful.  Just like it is.
