Fluorescence in yellow diamonds...what's the deal with that?
It's
interesting. In person, the fluorescence actually lends the diamond
a hand in looking more yellow......In normal room lighting blue fluorescence may make a
yellow diamond look yellower.
Put the
diamond under bright lights the fluorescence kicks in and the diamond
looks a bit blue.
For me,
there are several important factors when judging any
diamond.
How it actually looks is
first.
I only buy diamonds whose
looks I love.
A second test for us- how it
photographs.
Fluorescent yellow diamonds
are a tough one for me.
For example, this diamond (
GIA Strong Blue) looks yellower- a lot yellower - in person, than in the
loose diamond photos. As you can see, the ring photos show the stone as much
more yellow as compared to it when it was loose. This is common if the diamond
is correctly set
For this reason, I'll
usually consider fluorescent yellow diamonds if I really like them- and
the price is special.
A well cut Fancy Light
Yellow VVS1 at 25% below the price of a non blue diamond? That's
extraordinary for me.

More on this Fancy
Light Yellow Gem
CLARITY
VVS1-The diamond is very clean.
It's really a waste of time to even try and find the imperfection with a
10 power loupe.
It's totally eye clean.
CUT
This is a well cut
rectangular radiant cut diamond. The depth, AT 74.5 is at the upper lever we'll
consider. The only drawback here is that the diamond looks like a two carat- no
larger.
Sometimes a radiant with a depth
in the low 60's can look great and look larger. Of course then the price will be
much higher.....There's absolutely NO compromise in the
sparkle and livliness.
The color is rated by GIA as "Fancy Light Yellow". This is a distinct
lemon yellow color.
At 2.04 carats it's
a quite a sizable diamond.
THE RING
Yellow and blood RED
Here's an absolutely smashing
combination. The colors play off each other so well.....
The
ring is our finest custom made model hewn from platinum with 18karat yellow gold
holding the diamonds.
The
diamond and rubies are set close to the finger and each other.
